Speak Like A Native is an established and unique Language Class Franchise. They stand out from other language providers as they offer language programmes to all ages. The key to their success is that they make it convenient to their customers by bringing their clubs to places that they already use.
As a franchisee, you will source venues and build relationships with site managers where you can run your Speak Like A Native language programmes. Think community centres for parent / toddler groups, nurseries for pre-schoolers, primary schools for after-school clubs as well as offices, open workspaces, bookshops and cafes for adult programmes.
This will put your Speak Like A Native business at an advantage because you can run courses every day of the week and at different times. If you only focus on one age group (e.g. the after-school club), you are limited to 1530 – 1630, Monday to Friday. All age groups in a variety of venues means you can offer more work to the teachers you will hire, which makes it easier to retain them. And, of course, it increases your earning potential.
Being a Speak Like A Native Franchisee is a full-time job but the hours are flexible. You need to be available in normal business hours to meet managers at venues and be available to support your customers but it’s up to you when you do the admin, schedule your social media posts, and do all the varied tasks associated with running your own franchise business.
Speak Like A Native Franchisees do not necessarily require a background in either languages or teaching. You should expect to spend your time networking and setting up meetings with venues in your territory such as nurseries, schools and commercial outlets.
Your role is then to open and run clubs in these venues, recruit the teachers and ensure your customers are happy. You’ll do all this with the support of the initial training, manual, mentoring and marketing materials.
Speak Like A Native don’t expect their franchisees to be involved in the teaching other than the occasional cover but they do recommend attendance at some sessions to meet customers and check on the standards of delivery. You will be an owner manager who builds a team to deliver the sessions and maintain relationships with those who manage the venues.
Venues are key to your business – and they’re all different! In fact, you’ll be surprised at how many different places are open to the idea of hosting language clubs. The obvious place to start would be education institutions such as nurseries and schools. They will be expecting to hear from you and open to your offer. However, don’t stop there! As an example, some franchisees run French classes for adults in French cafés. Your customers will love it and the café owners are delighted that you add value and attract more people to their establishment.
Speak Like A Native will support you with guidelines and suggestions so you know where to look and how to market your courses. If your territory is where they already run some clubs from their Head Office, Speak Like A Native will ensure these are handed over to you and wherever there are contracts with chains or groups of venues, they will help you to set up clubs in your region.
There are no guarantees as it will be your responsibility to source the venues and then run your Language Class Franchise. You should only operate a club if it makes a profit (or breaks even at the beginning). Speak Like A Native will advise you on how to plan all your costs (e.g. rental to venue for a room, teacher etc).
Then, it’s up to you to see how many clubs you can build up and run. Each hour you run a course should bring in between £75 and £120. The question is, how many hours will your franchise run each week?
Just five nurseries, 10 school clubs and five adult groups would be approximately £100,000 a year with a profit margin of about 50%. However, Speak Like A Native Franchisees can do more than that!
You will begin with a week’s training that takes place in the London office with additional Zoom sessions. The training will cover everything from sourcing venues, recruiting and training teachers, customer service, marketing and social media, compliance and managing your business. Everything in the initial training is about helping you to hit the ground running.
Speak Like A Native will continue to support you for the duration of your franchise agreement. You will have one of the company directors as your mentor, who will retain weekly contact with you and will always be available for any urgent requests. You will have access to their Head Office team, with expertise in teaching, compliance, customer service, recruitment etc. There is also a monthly online forum, which all franchisees are invited to. The topics vary because they are chosen either by franchisees to share ideas or by Head Office to let you know about new services or products.
This is what we call the “business in a box” and is everything you need to get your Speak Like A Native Franchise up and running. At the outset, you’ll get branded marketing materials (e.g. flyers for different age groups / venues, business cards), polo shirts for your first teachers, email accounts, web and social accounts and a selection of other essentials.
You’ll have immediate access to the CRM. This is the system that will be at the centre of your business. It’s a branded booking site for your customers that also allows you to manage your financials and invoicing, store details of your employees / teachers, and manage your venues. The automated email side of the CRM is ideal for sending rebooking reminders to customers as well as newsletters and updates. The franchise package also includes a manual that is a detailed explanation of everything you should do – and how to do it!
