Meet Mike Walker, the Director behind the unique GolfStarz Franchise

GolfStarz was founded by Mike Walker and Roger Shutt. Mike, a keen golfer himself, who as a youngster had lofty aspirations of becoming a pro, and Roger, who has over 44 years of junior coaching experience and is 'The European Junior Golf Tour’ founder.

Mike's efforts to become a pro took a different focus when, at the age of 26, he found out he was to become a father. He suddenly thought that he could try and realise his dream by priming young Rilley Walker to be the next Tiger Woods, starting him off playing golf when he was just four years old. 

It soon, however, became apparent that it was not easy to find anywhere in the local area that would accommodate kids in the form of structured golf lessons. After endless online searching, Mike came across a golf professional that was offering junior golf lessons to boys and girls from the age of four from his local golf club, Prior Hayes in Cheshire. This was where Mike met Roger… Mike was amazed to see how Roger was coaching the young kids, managing to keep their attention and ensure they had lots of fun for the whole lesson. Mike had no hesitation in enrolling his son in Roger’s Junior Golf Program, and he quickly recognised that Roger’s unique methodology could be commercialised. It was also clear that there were no similar, easily accessible young kids golf coaching programs available elsewhere, so after a few months of Rilley participating in Roger’s golf sessions, and Roger and Mike becoming close friends, GolfStarz was formed.

Since then, Mike and Roger have set about introducing and promoting the GolfStarz program through schools, local community classes and events all over Cheshire and Merseyside.

Mike and Roger are keen to introduce golf to chidlren by making it fun! So, whether a child is the next Tiger Woods or not, they will have an enjoyable start in learning to play golf. Friendly coaches, whether they be you, employed coaches or both, they deliver GolfStarz sessions with one aim…. To make the kids scream with excitement!
