Lloyd Roberts worked in Manufacturing before investing in an Ovenclean franchise, but due to his sporadic shift patterns he was getting minimal time to spend with his family and poor job satisfaction. An Ovenclean franchise offered him flexibility and the opportunity to earn a good income.
“Ovenclean came across as a very supportive and successful Franchisor. I liked the fact that I could be my own boss but not have the same risks as a normal start-up business.”
“Without doubt, being a franchisee takes away a lot of risk and uncertainty. For example, the products and services are tried and tested, there’s more immediate success as the brand is established, it’s quick to start up with lots of information readily available and you can benefit from the experience of the franchisor and other franchisees.”
Another benefit is that all franchisees receive excellent training, as part of the franchise package. You will also receive on-going business, technical and emotional support from an experienced team.
“I received fantastic support from the Ovenclean Head Office. I spent two weeks learning the ropes by doing on-the-job training with an experienced franchisee and business mentor. The Sales & Marketing course also helped me drive my business forward.
Since I began trading, my biggest tool for growth has been providing an excellent service and being approachable, punctual and flexible. By doing this, I have built a great reputation in my local area which attracts and retains more customers. I also leaflet in-between jobs, market on Facebook and encourage my customers to leave me positive reviews on sites like Checkatrade.”
“Now, I have a better work-life balance, more confidence in my own ability and the freedom to make my own decisions.
Although I would advise those thinking of investing in a franchise to do plenty of homework – you need to understand the potential market size in the proposed territory and estimate market share already taken by competitors. Talk to lots of franchisees to get an idea of what works well and what doesn’t work well. Get a realistic view of how long it takes to break-even and establish the business.
All in all, I don’t have any regrets with Ovenclean and there is nothing I would do differently. In the future, I hope to increase my take home earnings and be seen a role model to other franchisees.”
Redundancy can be one of the most devastating experiences in life, but for some it can be a blessing in disguise. Nigel Colson, owner of Ovenclean Swindon decided to take the leap into franchising after being made redundant.
