A former senior finance administrator has rolled up her sleeves and started out in business as a professional oven valeter – as oven cleaning is, she says, one of those jobs that people need doing as it "always gets put on the back burner".
Anna Mason, 45, from Yoxall, near Burton-on-Trent, chose Ovenu after looking at a variety of franchise opportunities.
The new owner of Ovenu Burton-on-Trent and East Staffs, who has a degree in hospitality and also experience in the leisure industry, said it was "now or never" in deciding whether to become self-employed, or not.
Anna explained:
"I’m really excited by the opportunity of running my own oven valeting franchise. I have always been employed, even leading my own team, but always dreamed of becoming self-employed. I looked at various franchise opportunities as I wanted to become involved in an existing business with a strong track record and good reputation.
Ovenu really stood out as it has a strong and established reputation and the business of oven valeting is really gaining ground. As we’re increasingly a time poor society, many people are calling for services in the home that they never seem to find the time to take on.
Cleaning the oven is one of those jobs that always seems to get put on the back burner, so the oven valeting business was a sector that attracted me. I completely got it, as it was a service that I would have used myself when I was employed full-time."
Rik Hellewell, Managing Director and founder of Ovenu, said:
"I am very pleased that Anna has decided to become an Ovenu franchisee. She is already showing a lot of enthusiasm in launching her business, and has lots of excellent ideas for getting it going.
Running your own business is never an easy or straightforward route to take, but starting as a franchisee provides the security and assurance that you are starting in business whilst being part of established brand with all the support that it entails."
Anna’s professional oven valeting service covers most areas of Burton and East Staffordshire including Yoxall, Alrewas, Barton-under-Needwood and all surrounding areas.
Ovenu is a franchise network made up of more than 100 businesses owned by men and women working throughout the UK.
The Ovenu valeting process involves dismantling key components of an oven such as the door, interior panels, fan and shelves and placing them into design-registered tank equipment, which uses safe, non-caustic products to clean the oven parts. The whole process takes around three to four hours and leaves the oven, hob and exterior in immaculate condition.
